Question
MY STANDARD POODLE IS 13...SHES ALWAYS BEEN HOUSEBROKEN. I LEAVE THE BACK DOOR OPEN FOR HER TO GO OUTSIDE AND USE THE BATHROOM. WHEN SHE "DOES" GO OUTSIDE, SHE PEES AND POOPS ON THE DECK NOT THE GRASS...THEN OTHER TIMES,SHE PEES INSIDE THE HOUSE ON OUR LIVINGROOM CARPET. SHE IS MORE OPEN WITH IT NOW AND HAS DONE IN IN FRONT OF ME LAST NIGHT AND TONIGHT IN FRONT OF MY HUSBAND. ITS GETTING OLD. I HAVE CARPETCLEANED REPEATEDLY AND SHE WON'T STOP. ITS LIKE SHE PURPOSELY DOES THIS. I TAKE HER EVERYWHERE IN MY CAR AND SHE PLAYS WITH US ALL THE TIME.

MY MOM HAS ADULT DIAPERS AND I HAVE BEEN PUTTING THEM ON HER THE PAST FEW NIGHTS...SURPRISINGLY SHE WEARS THEM AND DON'T TRY AND TEAR THEM OFF. ITS LIKE SHE KNOWS WHY I PUT THEM ON HER...THIS CAN ET EXPENSIVE THO. I CAN'T KEEP ASKING MY MOM FOR THEM....DO YOU HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS? I AM TEMPTED TO GET RID OF HER.

Answer
Hello Lisa,
Please don't get rid of your girl unless this is a last option.  It would be very hard on her and most likely you also.
You might try taking her outside more often now that she is older.  She may have lost some of her bladder control, maybe she waits longer before going outside and can't hold it once she is out the doggie door, it could be hard on her hips going down the stairs so she goes on the deck, or she may not realize that she is starting to potty once outside.
Try watching to see when she eats and drinks, so that you will have an idea of when she will need to go out.  Dogs usually tend to go potty about 30 min after they eat or drink, though every dog is different, so take this into mind when watching her.

About the diapers, they make doggie diapers that are cloth, and you just put a potty pad in them to catch the urine.  They cost around $12-$15 dollars and then all you have to do is buy the pads to put in them.  Some people will buy two pair so that if your dog soils one, you can have a backup.  Here is a link to where you can buy the potty pants  http://www.pocos-usa.com/Potty_Pants.html  Or you can look around the net by typing "Female Dog Potty Pants" into your browser.

I hope this helps you and your dog some.  If you have other questions for me, please feel free to ask.
