Newbie questions....

Hi,

I have a few questions regarding my new puppy.  I accured a male toy poodle in a pet shop 2 weeks ago and he's now 3 months old and weight about 3 lbs.  He's very tame and quiet the first 2 days but he started whinning and barking a lot till this moment.  

Also he started to jump and bite on hand / finger (I kept him in a cage most of the time but let him out around 30-60 minutes everyday) whenever I have my hand close to the cage while I was actually trying to give a sigh for him to sit.  When I use both hands to hold him he doesn't try to bite thou.  I've tried to use no-bite stray on hand, spraying water on his nose, saying "no", and even flicking lightly on his nose.  Seems the flicking does the best but still he forgot everything the other day and the cycles goes on and on.  Please advise what would be the best way to eliminate these bad habits.

Also if I want to train him should I use choke chain or the pinch chain?

Regarding his health, he cough since day one and I've bought him to the vet for almost 4 times already and he's still coughing a bit.  The vet saids he's having the kennel cough and should be fine within 10 days when he told me last week.  He's coughing still.

Sorry about having a lot of questiongs but please help as I'm pretty confused now.  I'm planning to go to a trainner but it can't be done until he has his 3rd vaccination.

First off you should NEVER buy a puppy from a pet store.  These puppies are often sick, never socialized, and poorly bred.  You should have purchased a puppy from a breeder.  Second off.  Why are you keeping this puppy in a cage.  That is terrible.  To be in a crate a night is fine but to only get 30-60 minutes a day out of the cage???  That is aweful.  I feel bad for this puppy.  Do you not have time for this puppy?  If you are only going to play with your puppy for 30-60 minutes per day, please find him a home where people can love him and be with him.  Most of your behavior problems are coming from him being frustrated himself.  How would you like to be stuck in a cage all day every day and only get out for 30-60 minutes a day?!
As far as a choke chain or pinch chain why would you need either?  If you take this puppy out and spend sometime with him and give him the human contact he so desperately craves all you need is a collar and a leash to teach him to walk with you.
Goodness if he is still coughing by all means take him back to the vet.
I am sorry to say this but it really sounds to me that you are unprepared and unanble to properly care for this puppy.
I am sorry to sound mean and horrified on this but I really am.  If you work and have to leave you puppy in a crate all day or you just leave him in the crate cause you cant deal with his issues why do you have him?  He needs a good home where he is treated like a memeber of the family and gets the loving attention he deserves.
