Question
I have a three year old minature poodle who is very easy to train, except when it comes to scratching. he will just stop what hes doing and start scratching the carpet. i get on to him and he will stop then before i know it hes doing it again. hes stays at home during the day by himself but from the time i get home hes always by my side scratching or not haha. any ideas as to why he does this?

Answer
Hi Julie :-)

Dogs can scratch for all sorts of reasons hun. Sometimes it can be boredom or for attention. But it can also be your dogs way of telling you that he is hungry or wants or drink or even wants to go for a walk on his leash.

Both of my poodles scratch my kitchen floor in the exact place I leave their food bowl. So I was thinking maybe your dog could be scratching because of this but I am not certain.

Poodles have a lot of strange and unusual habits that are usually harmless but because he is house trained, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Also if you have a cat or another dog in the house, he could be picking up the other animals scent and scratching because of this.

Take care and all the best.

Trisha.
