Toy Poodle aggression

We adopted our 14 month old Toy Poodle 7 weeks ago. He is great with my husband and I and is more relaxed now when friends and family come to visit. We cannot take him around any other dogs. He snarls and growls and has even lounged at them I' afraid he may bite another dog. My family has toy poodles and none of them react this way. What do we do?

This may be difficult to work out alone.  I would start working at teaching obedience.  I think there are good directions at http://www.guidedogs.com/site/DocServer/puppy-raising-manual.pdf even if it isn't meant for pet poodles.  Once he starts to understand you are in charge, start an obedience class.  He can only learn to behave around other dogs, around other dogs.  Talk to the instructor ahead of time to get the hands on help you will need.
