Question
Yes I jus bought my kids an min poodle today and they said that she is 6 wks old but i think she is VERY tiny she only weighs 5 oz and she kind of looks likes she is sick. But she is eating soft food and drinking water very well. Is this a normal size for a poodle at this age. By the way this is my first dog ever so i really dont know.

Answer
Hello Carroll,
You should be aware of any breeder that will sell a puppy younger than 8 weeks old.  It is important for the puppies to stay with their mother for at least 8 weeks because they learn alot in those extra 2-3 weeks that they won't learn anywhere else.  They learn respect for other dogs by learning to respect their other siblings and their mother, they learn tolerance and not to fear things (at 7 weeks they go through a "fear stage" where if not exposed to new things they can become afraid of things)and they will start to learn to accept and see people as good from their mother and the other puppies.

I would take your puppy to the Vet if she looks or acts sick to you.  She is tiny for a 6 week old Miniature, but that shouldn't make her sick.  Runt puppies usually do well if taken care of properly, but they can be prone to illness because their body systems can be compromised due to their weaker conditions.

Your puppy will eat wet food for another 2 weeks or so.  You want to make sure that her teeth have fully come in and are strong enough to crunch the kibble up.  You will then want to give her a high quality puppy food that will help her grow big and strong.  Eukanuba, Science Diet, Iams, Nutro Max, and Diamond dog foods are all very healthy for your Puppy.

Take her to the Vet and see what he says.  If you have questions after that, please feel free to ask me.
