separation anxiety

Question
We just returned from a three day trip to find our Standard female poodle the shell of the dog we left.

When we left the house with four or five others, she acted crazy, barking and running around, as per her normal behavoir.  Our dog sitter is her friend and when he first came in the door later that evening, she barked at him, seemed lethargic and acted in a very unusual super slow motion with a blank look on her beautiful face.  She was throwing up, and appeared to have eaten something that may have been thrown over the fence (like part of a burito).
Anyway, after our first night back, she still acts like she is in slow motion and does not seem to be "with it".
We are taking her to the vet this morning?  What happened?
I worry about her being so upset that it brought on a stroke.

Thanks,

Joe

Answer
Hello Joe,
Sounds like your dog just got upset because you left.  Even though he might be ok while you go out and come right back, being left for such a long period of time might have caused him to become anxious.
After you take him to the Vet and everything checks out, give him a couple of days to see if he comes out of it.

You might also think about leaving him with the Pet Sitter next time you leave (if she will agree) so that he has someone with him the whole time you are gone.

If you have other questions or concerns for me, please feel free to ask.
