Question
I have 2 excellent quality standard poodles, male and female. I dont have full ownership or breeding rights on my male. Is there any way that I can breed them and obtain a litter that is registerable by AKC? Do I really need to have the litter AKC registered? Both of my dogs are registered. My female does not have a stipulation for not breeding, I have full ownership. Thanks, Karenu

Answer
Hello Karen,
The only way to get a registered litter, according to the American Kennel Club, is to breed two Fully Registered American Kennel Club dogs together and then register the litter.  If you don't have full ownership or breeding rights on the male, then you should ask the co-owner or breeder of the male about changing that around.
If registration can't be obtained on your male, then you can breed the pair and will have unregistered puppies.  There is nothing wrong with raising and selling unregistered puppies, but the people buying them will have to realize that they won't be able to show their dogs in AKC sanctioned events, and that they also won't be able to raise or sell registered AKC puppies.

If both of your dogs are registered with AKC, you could register your dogs with the CKC or Continental Kennel Club www.continentalkennelclub.com/Registration.aspx  and then you could sell CKC registered puppies.

I hope this helps you some.  If you have other questions for me, please feel free to ask.
