Behavior after grooming

Question
My 1 1/2 year old toy female poodle seems very disturbed after being groomed.  She rubs herself in the grass compulsively and drags her rear end around.  In addition, for a few days afterward, she is very quiet, doesn't eat or play.  I have requested the groomer to abstain from using scented products but that doesn't seem to be a remedy.  Have you any ideas about this problem?  Thanks.

Answer
Hello Bobbie,
It sounds like your dog is a bit trumatized after a visit to the Groomer.  This could just be because she is leaving you and going to a strange loud place, or it could be that the Groomer is maybe rough on her.
After she gets back from the Groomer, you might try adding something like gravy or broth to her food to encourage her to eat.

She rubs her body, face, butt and feet on the ground and grass because they are a bit itchy after being shaved.  Kind of like the itch you get after shaving your legs or underarms.
If you have some lotion (A&D lotion works pretty good as does Gold Bond Medicated powder)
this will help soothe her itching.  This shouldn't happen frequently. If it does, you should consider a new Groomer.

I hope this helps you some.  If you have other questions, please feel free to ask.

Have a great day, and Many "Primped" Tail Wags.
