Question
Hi there.  I have a spayed female, appricot of 6 years.

PROBLEMS:
1.  Is allergic to every single brand of dry or can food I ever tried (no matter the price).
2.  She stinks so bad that it's impossible to cuddle with her.  My entire house reeks!
3.  She gags all day as though she will throw up.  Sometimes bile does come out.
4.  She scratches and bites herself all day.

I have taken her to MANY vets. I have had her blood drawn numerous times.  I have changed her food continuously.  I have bathed her in every possible way with all kinds of products.  I'm desperate!

I cook her meals now.  This helps with her smell a bit, but I know she isn't getting all the nutrients she needs.  Please give me a recipe to cook at home and kindly be clear on the measurements and how many cups to feed her per day.  I am grateful to have found you.  Thanks so much!
Monica

Answer
I am sorry I don't get into diets.  it is a difficult, specialized area. You are correct wanting a reliable source for one.

With all the vet work, have you identified the specific allergens?  If she is allergic to say lamb, it won't make any difference whether it is in Iams, California Natural, or from the supermarket.  To succeed with a home made diet, you need know what is causing the problem, and avoid it.  I had some links to sites you might be able to trust for recipies, but they don't work anymore.  Try going to hhttp://www.woodhavenlabs.com/articles2.html#nutritionttp://www.woodhavenlabs.com/articles2.html#nutrition  It is one of the best balanced sites on the net and I have found many of the sites it links to reliable.  The net is full of absolute garbage when it comes to dog nutrition.

Before you give up on commercial chows, you might try http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/  Their rating system is speculation based garbage.  Ignore it.  They do have an extensive listing of dog foods and their ingredients including some meant for problems like yours with limited ingredients.  If you have identified the allergens, you may be able to pinpoint a food without them.
