Poodle Wont Stop Peeing

Question
Hi Trisha,

My poodle is 5 years old. In good shape, a lot of energy...etc.

My problem....as a puppy he was completely house broken. He would never pee in the house. For some reason he has started using my floor as his urinating ground. I am about to pull my hair out. He is constantly peeing under my kitchen table around the chairs. It's not a bladder issue because he only does this at night when he can do it and not be seen. When we go to bed...usually around 11 or 12, my husband is up by 5 with him and lets him out. He actually will wake hubby up in order to go outside. But he has already peed! I started locking him up when he pees at night. When I give him roam of the house again he will go a day or two without peeing at night and then he starts again.

What could be the problem?

Thanks

Angie

Answer
Hi Angie :-)

This sounds like it could be a training issue hun. But if your Dog is urinating and drinking a lot more than usual, then take him to the Vet for a examination.

Meanwhile, because you said when you give him roam of the house he stops urinating in your house for 2 days then this may be your Dogs way of telling you he wants to roam the house and if you don't let him he's going to wee everywhere. Believe it or not but Poodles can be cheeky devils with attitudes to match and they like to get their own way.

Try re-training him as where he can urinate and to let you know when he wants to go, but also let him roam the house and see if this stops him from urinating.

Or there is another option you could try, as he is in the kitchen when he urinates, this could be happening because the light is switched off and he feels lonely. Leave the light on for him or a radio so he doesn't feel as alone and wrap him up in something which has your scent on it as this seems to settle them some.

Take care and all the best and please leave me a comment.
