Answer
Hello Kimberly,
Your puppy and your son should do alright as long as you instruct your son on how to act and behave around a new puppy.  As long as the child is gentle with the puppy, the puppy should be alright with your child.  Most puppies enjoy children and can make an awesome pet as the child grows.
One thing I suggest you do is to go to the store and pick out a "special" stuffed animal that resembles the puppy you are getting.  Teach the child with the stuffed animal how to handle it like they would the real puppy.  Let him know that he is getting a real dog just like his stuffed puppy and he needs to play gentle with the stuffed puppy so that he will know how to play with the real puppy.  When you get the puppy, teach the puppy that it can't "play" with your son like it would with another puppy.  Most puppies will see small children as another puppy to play with and can be kind of rough.  Provide your puppy with plenty of Pet approved toys that it can play with instead of your child, and ALWAYS supervise puppy and child while together.

I hope this helps you some.  If you have other questions for me about this, please feel free to ask.
