Question
Hello! I have a miniature pincher and i believe shes pregnate. She breed with a male pin in late october early november 08 and here it is jan shouldnt she had already had her puppies? She has milk in her now i've been watching her like a hawk and she hasnt really showed signs of labor. Is it possible for her to go over this far or have milk if she isnt pregnate?

Answer
Hello There,
Females tend to be pregnant for 63 days.  Puppies can come early or a bit late, but not as late as you are predicting.  Given your timeline, your female should have had her puppies around the 10th (give or take a day or two)
If your dog hasn't had her puppies by now, she most likely had a false pregnancy.
When a female has a false pregnancy, they go through all the stages of pregnancy without producing puppies.  She will have milk, her belly will swell and she will start making a nest like she was going to have babies.

If you need to be sure that she doesn't have babies inside, you will need to take her to the Vet and have an ultrasound done to be sure that there are no babies present.

**One thing you can do is to take her tempature.  Normally a dogs temp(rectally) runs around 101.5 but when they are about to have puppies, a females temp will run around 98.0  If you take her temp and its close to normal, then she is probably not pregnant.
DO BE SURE THAT YOU KNOW HOW TO TAKE A RECTAL TEMP BEFORE ATTEMPTING THIS BECAUSE YOU CAN INJURE YOUR DOG IF ITS DONE IMPROPERLY!!

I hope that this helps you some.  If you have other dog questions for me, please feel free to ask.
