amelie - our 5 month old standard

We have had Amelie for about 2 weeks now.  She is very comfortable around our family, but is terrified of other people when they come over.  Is this normal? She tucks her tail and hides or won't move.

No its not normal behavior.  She needs more socialization.  You need to take her out where she can get more socialization and get used to people.  If you have a petco or petsmart this is a good place to start.  Let people come up to her.  Tell them to go slow as she is a little shy.  When she lets people touch her tell her good girl and treat her.  Soon she will find out that meeting people is fun.  Be sure to get her around other dogs and pets too so that she gets used to them also or you will have the same problem there.  Some pets stores will also offer puppy socalization classes that you can put her in and help out a great deal.
