Question
We recently became the proud owners of an abandoned toy poodle.  She had obviously been neglected for months before being tossed from a car near our home.  She has now been neutered, clipped close to eliminate all the matting, and is generally delightful in every way.  She was apparently played with using tugging games.  She loves to play tug with a towel or toy and growls ferociously as she pulls at the toy.  She has also now begun a game where she prances and pounces around in front of my feet when I try to walk and growls and yips.  Any suggestions on stopping these behaviors or should I just let her enjoy her old games.  We are trying to tire her out with more constructive play and walks but she has loads of energy and seems to insist on these games at particular times of the morning and evening.  Old habits die hard I suppose. PS- thank you for ALL the poodle info on your site, I have had several labs and shepard mixes but this is my first small dog.

Answer
As long as she is playing with appropriate toys and not destroying anything or bitting you then I would let her continue her play. If she is tripping you up with the other playing or could possibly trip you then I would stop that behavior.  Redirect her attention to something else or even turn your back on her.  Ignoring her will not give her the attention she is trying to get.  Once she understands that she will most likely quit the behavior.
Your welcome.  I am glad it has helped.
