QuestionWe have just aquired a stray poodle who is about 1 year old. Please can you advice what to feed and how much and how often. Thankyou.
AnswerMost dogs will thrive on most chows. Much of the negative things you read are marketing hype put out by those selling something more expensive. I would pick a meat based, concentrated common brand of dry kibble. If ease of cleaning up after the dog isn't as important as price, you could even go with a corn based chow such as the regular Purina.
A standard Poodle might do fine on one meal of about 3 cups a day. Smaller ones would need less, but divided into 2 meals a day. Your dog definitely should be narrower at the waist than the hips and chest. You should be able to easily feel the ribs, but not see them. Each dog is different. Standard recommendations on th epackage are a good place to start, but each dog must have its food and exercise adjusted to its individual needs.
