standard poodle with dry cough

Question
My 18 mo. old standard female has a dry cough.  It's not constant, and almost
sounds and looks like she has food stuck in her throat.  It tends to come after
she's eaten.  Is this kennel cough, or something else?  We've had her for almost
2  weeks, and again, I've noticed it happening mostly within minutes after eating.

Answer
That is hard to say.  Does she eat very rapidly?  If so, try slowing her down.  There are not one, but 2 easy, tested, effective ways to control rapid eating. You can spread the food out on a cookie sheet or something. Some of my friends just throw it on the floor of the crate. You can put large rocks in the food dish, much to big to swallow. Either way, the dog can't gulp down one big mouthful after another.

If that doesn't solve the problem, I am afraid you will need to see the vet.
