discoloration on poodle

Question
I have a question.  My poodle is almost 4 years old.  He is apricot in color.  We generally keep his coat at a short height.  He seems to be getting a  grayish spot on his coat or skin (closer inspection of his skin does not show discoloration).  It is hardly noticeable unless you look at him in at a certain angle and lighting.  Could you please advise me if this may be an illness or what?

Answer
It does not sound like a problem at all, but you may want to keep an eye on it.  What do you use to bathe him? If it isn't a shampoo made for poodles, you may have a dog with very dry skin...and sometimes that can affect hair growth.  He may just be graying a bit - poodles do get gray as they age, just as humans do.  I'd kinda watch it and if it appears to spread or your dog tends to be messng with that area, you may want to take him to a vet. Otherwise, you might want to call your vet and explain it to see what he/she thinks - just to ease your mind.  It is probably nothing, but I usually err on the side of caution and check it out.

I wish you luck, and I wish I could be more definitive, but without actually seeing the dog, it's hard to say.  It sure doesn't sound like mange or anything really awful.  His hair just might be changing a bit........

Take care!
