QuestionI have an extremely well behaved standard poodle has an odd behavior. He will lay on his bed with a toy in his mouth and alternately press his two front legs. He can do this for hours. This isn't a problem, it just seems strange. What is he trying to do?
AnswerHe has retained the behavior from puppyhood. Puppies kneed the mothers nipples to produce more milk. That is all he is doing. He is contented. Its a happy thing and something that dogs will associate with pleasentness. I have seen several dogs do the behavior well into their teens although you will see it more often in cats than dogs.
