Yeast Infections in ears contagious?

Question
Hi, so my family and I have a 6 month old poodle and we are going to go out of town, but we would rather leave her with someone we know and who we can pay less than most boarders. So my boyfriend offered to take her for the week, but I know his pug has yeast infections in her ears, now they have another dog that never gets them.  So I was just worried if I did let her stay that she might get the yeast infections or at maybe more likely to get them. In case you had any suggestions that would be great! Thank you so much!

Answer
Hi Stephanie :-)

Yeast inside a Dogs ear is a classic breeding ground for Bacteria and can result in infections because the ear is so warm and moist.

However, it is unlikely your Poodle will catch the yeast infection unless your boyfriend touched his Dogs ear and forgot to wash his hands and later touched your Poodles ears. In this situation it is possible for yeast to be passed on but chances of this happening are very slim.

The Poodle Breed is very prone to ear infections so this slightly does increase her chance of contracting a ear infection and because she is still technically a puppy, her immune system will not be at the same level of a Adult and this does increase her risk slightly. But the chance of her contracting this ear infection is about 1-2%. It's very low hun.

Also, keep your Dogs ears hair free and this will help prevent ear infections. Poodles are notorious for hair ears and this helps the yeast to grow and turn into a infection. Regular plucking of her ears will prevent this.

Have your boyfriend wipe your Dogs ears with a cotton wool bud gently and this will wash out any germs present there and should prevent a yeast infection forming.

Take care and all the best and please leave me a comment.
