Very Old Poodle

Question
I have a 17 yr old toy poodle. Lately, she has a strong body odor. When I give her a bath, a few hours later the strong odor comes back. I am concerned that this is due to old age. She is not a energentic as she use to be and her appetite varies. I fear the worse. Should I be worried?

Answer
She may have (like elderly humans) problems with going to the bathroom well - i.e. she might be constipated or something of that sort. The "equipment" may just not be working that well. She also could be diabetic if it's a sweetish odor. She also might be having some problems with her kidneys.  I had a 17 year old miniature who I kept on IV fluids every morning for about 5 months, until she tired of it and felt it was her time.
I'd suggest taking her to a vet to get a checkup to see what might be the problem.  I wish you luck.
