Questionhello, a friend of mine just gave me a 7 yr. old female poodle miniature she is very sweet. but i am concerned about her weight she is only 7 lbs. also she tends to walk on circles all the time. i have never had a dog to do this . can you help? thank you , deedee
AnswerA poodles size is based on height not weight. So just telling me that your dog is 7 lbs doesnt have much context without telling me how tall. Height is measured from the floor to the top of the shoulder. Without that height I can not give you an idea of what your poodle should weight.
As far as the walking in cirlces that could be related to being in a cage that was too small for her. This could have been from something her breeder did in early life. Or if she was purchased from a pet store and stayed in a tiny cage for months before bing sold. Its most likely a habitual behavior. I would suggest behavior modification training. When she starts doing the behavior distract her with a favorite toy or a treat into doing something else. Start teaching her tricks and giving her a job to do. Make sure she has lots of toys to play with and gets lots of attention so that she is not bored. You can even take her for a walk if she starts doing the behavior.
