My poodle, Habebi

Question
Hi! I am really worried about my toy poodle, Habebi.(he is only 3 months) Whenever he sleeps through the night or even if he wakes up, his mouth seems to be really dry and it seems like he is trying to cough something up. It is almost like he is a cat trying to get a hairball out. He will also just roll around and act really weird. Then my husband will come in the room and he will get really hyper and he will start acting normal again. I am wondering if he likes getting my attention or if there really is something wrong with him?  Another thing that worries me is that he follows me everywhere I go(I can't be out of his sight) and I feel so bad when I leave the house because he just barks so loud and it is almost like a baby crying. What should I do?

Answer
Well your first problem needs to be seen by a vet.  It sounds a bit like he has kennel cough.  This can be dangerous in young puppies as it can lead to pneumonia.  I am not a vet and can not diagnosis a problem for you so please see a vet.  As to your second problem this is NORMAL behavior for a young puppy.  To him you are now his mother.  That is why he follows you around.  Most people would be happy for a bond that strong. When you leave he is very unhappy.  Sounds like he is going to have seperation and anxiety issues.  Was he taken away from his mother too early?  Puppies should not leave their mothers until they are 8 weeks old.  This early socialization that the mother gives is very important and alleviates a lot of problems latter in life.  When you leave you need to make sure he has lots of toys and things to keep him occupied.  Kong toys with treats in the middle are great for long time play.  It might also be good for you to get him a play mate close to his same age.  They can bond to eachother and you and keep eachother company.
