Question
Maybe 2 or 3 months ago I have had asked you questions regarding my poodle and helping her the best way that I can. I've been having successful results in almost containing these seizures. I was wondering though, she still has her seizures and even though they are less often, they seem like they're getting worse as in the side affects and the severity. Since I have taking her off of her vet-prescribed medicine (for her seizures) because of the side and long-term affects of the medicine (phenobarbital) (liver damage)things haven't really changed, with a possibly 3-4 seizures that she would normally have on the medication. She was on the medicine for an extensive 4 months before stopping it.. I was wondering would it be better for keeping her off the pills with the chances of her seizures getting worse, or fatal? or should I keep her on the pills also fatal occurrences. I love my dog and she's a huge part of my life, and I love her as much as any human can love an animal. I just want an opinion of someone else's eyes with experience instead of listening to my veterinarian thinking it just through medical eyes.. basically, I want the best for my dog and I want her to have a happy, healthy life. Thank you.

Answer
Hello again Natasha,
You might try keeping your dog off the medication for awhile to see how she reacts and for how long.  I haven't started my dog on the phenobarbital as of yet because his seziures are few and far between and don't want to start him on it if I don't have to because of the side-effects, but I can't tell you what is in the best interest of your dog because I am not expirenced enough with seizures to know what is best.

Contact other Vets in your area to see what they suggest.  You can also go on-line and ask Vets there.

I hope this helps some.
