can poodles get human head lice?

20 10:25:41

Question
Hello,
I've read that human head lice are species specific, and are not carried by dogs.  Does this also apply to poodles, given that their fur/hair is so different?

We had a sleepover houseguest who had head lice.  The entire family is being treated, as a precaution.  Should we consider treating our miniature poodle as well?

Thank you very much
Susuan

Answer
Hello Susan,
No, your dog should be ok and not at risk of getting the lice.  You can bathe your dog just as a precaution, but since the lice ARE species specific, your dog should be immune.

I hope this helps you some and if you have other Poodle questions for me or dog questions in general, please feel free to ask me.
