Silver Poodles

Question
I bought a standard poodle in August, as a puppy. She is a "mongrel" looking color at this point. I was told she is a silver poodle and will turn silver in first year of life? She does have registration papers so I know it isn't a hoax. Are silver poodles born with black hair and how long before it does become silver. My vet couldn't answer my question. Thanks, Geri
