Housebreaking miniature poodle

Question
I have a male miniature poodle who is 3 years old and about a year ago he started peeing in my house. We started keeping him in a kennel through the day when we are at work (also because he would tear up things) but he is still peeing in the floor at night. We cannot catch him, but we know he is doing it because he does it in the same spots..on the dryer, on the kitchen table legs, trash can and sometimes  the recliner. We just had a baby and this CANNOT continue. We tried to kennel him one night, but he barked ALL night until we let him out for lack of sleep. I need help on this matter because we are going to have to get rid of him. My husband has actually found someone to take him and the expect him next weekend (the 27th). I don't want to get rid of him, but if he won't stop...HELP!!!!

Answer
This sounds like a classic case of a challenge to your leadership.  The only quick fix is to neuter him if not already.  Some dogs will still do so if neutered.  In that case, better leadership might solve the problem.

The key to most behavior problems is approaching things using the dog's natural instincts.  Dogs see all the people and dogs in the household as a pack with each having their own rank in the pack and a top dog.  Life is much easier if the 2 legged pack members outrank the 4 legged ones.  You can learn to play the role of top dog by reading some books or going to a good obedience class. A good obedience class or book is about you being top dog, not about rewarding standard commands with a treat.
