Dew Claws

Question
My 6 month old eski-poo (American Eskimoo Poodle Mix) is going in to be neutered this week. We have chosen laser surgery. Our Vet has reccomended removal of his Dew claws. Why is this done and should we allow it?

Answer
Dew claws tend to be a nuisance.  Unless carefully trimmed, they scratch.  They also can snag and injure the dog.  Two more nails to trim.  I know of no good reason to keep them.  Neutering your dog is a responsible step that will make life more enjoyable for both of you.  We need more responsible pet owners like you.
