Question
One of my poodles in the past three most every being groom ed . his skin is very dry and I wonder if was the shampoo she used o him, however the other 5 skin is fine. My black is 8 years old and very healthy and does not eat dog food. I cook for all my kids.I was told by the vet it was dry skin- I was oatmeal soap and conditioner on him between visits to the groomer.which is every 5 weeks. I has white flakes and some areas I very heavy -does not bother him at all. Can you suggest something.  Thank you.

Answer
Usually in about 95% of cases it is an internal issue rather than an external one causing the dry skin.  Yes you may feed a cooked diet that is good.  However, what works for your other dogs may not be working for this specific dog.  It sounds like this dog is allergic to something.  I would eliminate items in the food one at a time with this dog until I found the problem item.  In the meantime I would tell the groomer that the dog has dry skin and that no harsh shampoos, conditioners or sprays are to be used on the dog and to stick to an oatmeal shampoo.
