Question
Hi,

I have a standard poodle (she is 3/4 standard and 1/4 lab) so labradoodle.  My question is.. she came into her first heat cycle last aug-oct..I believe in sept..but not for sure.  She turned 1 yrs old dec 5, 2006.  She should have come into heat again since then...correct?  She has not.  She always had a poodle tummy that sunk in...now she has more of a lab belly and is eating quite a bit more.  i don't know if this is her maturing or if somehow she got pregnant.  She stay in a 6 foot privacy fence and I am not sure how in the world she would have gotten pregnant but who knows with dogs.  Anyway what do you think?

Answer
It is part of the responsibility of being a pet owner of a non-altered dog, making sure that they do not become pregnant.  I would HIGHLY recommend that you have her fixed as soon as you possibly can.
Dogs go into heat every 6 months so yes she would have been in heat since in either March or April.  So yes it is very possible that she could have become pregnant.  I would get into your vet as soon as possible and have her scanned or xrayed to find out.  If she isnt, I would have her fixed while she was there.  If she is pregnant then you will have the extra added responsibility of raising the puppies, socializing them, the vet and grooming care, and the responsibility of finding perfect homes for the puppies.  There is a lot of information out there on the net on raising puppies.  If she is pregnant I would recommend doing some research so you will be well prepared.  Once the puppies have reched 6 weeks and are weaned, that would be the perfect time to take her in and have her fixed.
