Question
Hi, I have a loving four yr old toy poodle. We have had her to the vets many times in her life but, she persist on licking the fur off her front feet, sliding on the carpet, and has dry skin spots. Can you help with any one of these problems? THANKS

Answer
Hello,

Poodles tend to get 'hot spots' and dry skin easily.  I use a moisturizing shampoo and a conditioner with aloe I got at Petco to help alleviate the dry skin. I also (in cold weather) have sweaters my poodles wear when going outside to do their business.  There is also a topical ointment you can get at a pet store that is specifically for 'hot spots', which are areas the pet tends to "worry" or lick, bite and mess with all the time.  It alleviates discomfort and the need your dog has to continually try and stop the itching and discomfort.

Hope these ideas help.  Sometimes (depending on your dog's allergies if she has any) it may be best to check with your vet for a hypoallergenic moisturizing or conditioning shampoo/conditioner.

Good luck!
