Question
Dear Kim Wingate,

I'm William from Malaysia would like to ask you something
about my 9 yr-old toy poodle, Qian. She was very healthy and
energetic until last few weeks. She looks very down and is
in low mood especially in the day time. initially i thought
she feels uncomfortable with the changing hot and rainy
weather in my country. She becomes quite inactive and just
stares blank when i look at her. i also found that her
breast become a little bit swollen and  there are 2 lumps on
her back which was diagnosed to be benign by a vet months
ago.
yesterday i fed her with a very small piece of apple. and
this morning i found out that she becomes unwell and starts
to vomit and diarrhoea. the faeces is watery and the vomitus
is also the same. her gums are dry. she refuses to take
dogfood and water anymore.

I m getting very anxious and worry if she will leave me one
day soon. Please help me to help her.
Thanks for ur reply in advance.

Worried.

Please notify me via my yahoo email. I really appreciate ur
kind advice.

Answer
Hello William,
It sounds like Qian may be headed down hill.  You need to get some Water or liquid in her first and foremost, then see if you can get her to eat some boiled chicken.  If she won't drink water, try some of the water from the boiled chicken (cooled first).

You can give your dog Pepto Bismol for her stomach problems (diarrhea and vomiting); a dog her size would take around 1-1 1/2 cc of medicine.
Also, check her gums to see if they are gray or not.  If they are, she could be in shock.

You may want to at least call your Vet and let him know what your dog is doing so that he can let you know if its something to worry about or not.

I hope your dog is feeling better, but if she is on her way down, just try to keep her comfortable and let her know that you are there for her.

If you have other questions for me about this, or other questions in general, please feel free to ask.
