Question
We have a Poodle-Bischon Frise mix that smells really strong, especially after she has been active and/or has had a bath. We have tried everything to get rid of the smell, but nothing seems to help. What could be the cause? Help!

Answer
Hello Peter,
It could be a number of things that is causing this.  It could be oils in her skin that leave a bad smell on her body, or it could be something she gives off when active or excited (kind of like when people sweat)
Whatever the cause, it can be helped with a shampoo mix.
You use a cup of Hydrogen Peroxide, 2 tablespoons Baking Soda and enough dish soap to suds your dog up.
Shake it up and apply to the dog.  Don't keep it in a closed bottle or it will explode.  Scrub your dog with the shampoo then use a conditioning shampoo to recondition the hair.  Also, try not to use the shampoo mix more than once every two weeks or so because it can dry the dogs coat and skin out.

Regular brushing will also help the smell down by helping to distribute the oils throughout the hair rather than letting them sit in one spot on the dog and concentrating the smell.  You might also spray your dog with a conditioning spray that will help keep her coat healthy and smelling clean.  You can get one from Sally's Beauty Supply called Proclaim Spray-On Glosser.  Works great and has a nice smell.

I hope this helps you some.  If you have other questions for me, please feel free to ask.
