Question
Hello, I know you normally answer questions about Poodles. But I was just wondering... I have a 1-year-old German Shepherd that just finished her first heat cycle. I am thinking about breeding her next summer (2009). Her dad was registered, but she is not because her mother was not. The dad was beautiful and big (not fat) 120 lbs. The mother had a beautiful stance and both had German lines. Should I waste my time trying to breed her? Do you think I can find a stud that will not care she is not registered?
Thank you,
~Gabrielle

Answer
Hello Gabrielle,
You should be able to find a GSD breeder in your area who will allow you to use their stud dog for your female, if they find your female suitable enough.
Do you know anything about the Dam?  Her lineage, what dogs are in her background?  Just because a dog isn't registered, that doesn't mean that it isn't good quality.  If you can find anything out about the female, you might do a bit of prying to see what you can come up with.
If not, most breeders can see quality in a dog that is well-bred.

Go to the GSD website and see if there are any breeders in your area.  Write to them and let them know what you are looking for.  Give them the Sire's information and see if they will accept your proposial.  It can't hurt to try.
You might also try putting an ad in your local paper, saying that you are looking for Stud Service for your female GSD.

I wish you luck and if you have other questions, please feel free to ask.
