toy poodle ear infecton?

Question
I just bought a toy poodle 2 days ago from a breeder and I was hugging her and smelled something so I looked in her ears and saw a reddish brown stuff in her ear.  The other one looked fine.  The smell is not horrendous, but enough that I noticed it.  She doesn't seem to be leaking anything, just the stuff that seems to be stuck to ear hair on the inside.  Also, it is dark in there so I can't see very far into the ear. Does it sound like ear wax?  Does that give off a smell?  I know you may not be able to help, but I thought it was worth a shot since you have had poodles and you may have encountered this before.    Thanks, Molly

Answer
Hello Molly,
Sounds like she could have a mild infection in her one ear.  You can use an over-the-counter product to clean the ear out first before taking her to the Vet.
You can also have her ears cleaned when you take her to the groomer.  They will usually apply powder to her ears and pull the hair out, then will apply a liquid and get any debris out of the ear.

Hope this helps you some.  If you have other questions for me, please feel free to ask.
