swollen feet

Question
I have the poodle that just had cysts removed from his body and has swollen feet.  Well, I took him back to the vet and she first had me try cortizone spray, and when that didn't work  they gave him a shot.  His feet were good for a few days; however, they are now worse than ever.  I wish I could send you a picture.  Tonight, the vet advised me by phone to try the spray again.  I have and taped socks on his feet and I gave him a pig's ear to chew until he hopefully falls asleep for the night.  I can't find any information on badly swollen toes and feet.  This is only on his front paws.  Could he be causing the irritation just by licking them?

Answer
It is very possible that he is causing the irritation himself.  But I am also concerned that it maybe a reaction to the drugs that were used during the surgery perhaps or even a reaction to whatever they gave him in the shot.  Have you tried giving him some benadryl and seeing if that works.  I dont remember if you said you tried that before or not.  Did the vet give you any other drugs for your dog besides the spray after the surgery like pain killers or anything that you are currently giving him.  Seems like he is having a reaction to something. Keep a close eye on it and if it continues I would take him back into the vet.  I would keep the feet wrapped for a day and see if that helps and keeps him from licking.  If that seems to work then you will want to do fresh ones daily and give his paws a little bit of air time to breathe.  Just watch him carefully during this time to make sure he is not licking them.
