Question
Hi,
We have a 5 month old toy poodle male and will be visiting my in-laws who have a toy poodle male who is 4 yrs old.  We are crate training our puppy and will continue to use the adult poodle's crate while visiting at their house for a 1 week visit (the adult does only uses the crate if the house is to noisy, i.e., during parties or when grandkids are over, but not overnight).  Would it be ok to let puppy use this crate?  The airplane carrier seems too small.  Any advice on how to introduce the two, and how to make the adult feel less threatened, since we'll be in "his territory"?  Thanks!

Answer
If the airplane carrier is too small then it is too small for him to go on the plane with.  Dogs have to be able to stand up and turn around in these carriers.  The airlines will not let you fly with him if it is too small.  I would recomend buying a larger one that he can be comfortable in and be able to stay in while he is there with you.  I wouldnt upset the older male by using his carrier.  Especially if he uses it all the time.  If you are only going to be there for one week then I would probably keep the dogs seperated.  Sounds like the adult male is not used to other dogs around.  I wouldnt try to force the issue.  It might make the whole trip uncomfortable for all of you.  If the other male acts like he wants to play and be with them puppy then ofcourse that is a different matter and you could supervise some playtime together.
