How do I teach my dog to sit up

There are several training methods you can use, but I find positive reinforcement works best.  Grab some treats and take your dog someplace without other dogs, kids and other distractions.  You say "Sit" very firmly and 'help' his/her bottom to sit.  When he/she is in the sitting position, praise the dog and give a treat.  Then do it again (repitition is the key here) as long as it takes.  Then, later that day or the next day, do it again. The continuous positive reinforcement when he/she gets it right will soon provide results.  Don't always give a treat after the first or second session - but do so sometimes.
