Needy Husky?

Question
Dear Marcus,

I'm writing due to my almost seven month old Siberian Husky. He's been a great dog in the three months we've had him, quick learner, guilty conscious, etc. He absolutely respects us as his pack leaders but I've noticed a recent change... He seems needy when one of us leaves, staring at the door, pouting. When we leave him alone in the bedroom he pees right on top of our bed. We can't put a crate upstairs but he's acquainted with our room. What can we do?

Answer
Unfortunately, this is a rather common problem and one that's tough to fix.  Basically, this is a separation anxiety issue and the dog is being submissive in an environment that is overwhelming to him on a sensory level.  You see, his pack leaders sleep in that bed (so it smells a lot like you), and you are leaving.  Basically, he is not wanting the separation and it's causing some interesting behaviors.

your best bet is to not give access to the bedroom and just try to eliminate the opportunity for the behavior.  Often dogs will go through this period as they grow up, and if you ignore it, eliminate the opportunity to express it, and act as normally as possible, most dogs outgrow it in time.
