Question
I have a year and 1/2 husky and since we got her (about 4 days ago) she has only eaten 1 cup of food and gone to the bathroom (number 2) once. we have tried to feed her 4 different types of dog food.  Is this normal? If not what should i be doing different?

Answer
Your dog may just be adjusting to a new environment.  Generally, don't worry about it for a few days.  After that, if the dog is still refusing to eat, try adding some chicken broth (low sodium) or something similar to the kibble.  Also, check and see if the dog is eating treats.  Generally, this will help encourage the dog to eat on a more routine basis.

Also, keep in mind that Siberians have extremely efficient metabolisms and therefore often eat less than other canines.  Don't be surprised if one cup of food is all the dog eats on a daily basis, and Sibes often self-regulate their food intake, not eating much if they aren't active and don't need the food.  Also, a dog with an empty stomach will often vomit bile - it's normal, and while not necessarily healthy, isn't cause for concern if it's irregular.  I mention that more just as a warning as you will probably see that if the dog is not eating.

Overall, I wouldn't worry too much as you let the dog adjust to her new surroundings.  You may want to keep an eye on the weight, and make sure she is not loosing much in the way of body weight.  But I would try a few treats and make sure she eats those, and stay with the kibble.  In another few days (maybe a week total) without her eating kibble, I would add some chicken broth and see if that helps.  Keep an eye on her water consumption too.  If she's drinking, that's a good sign - dehydration is more of a concern than just hunger.

Hope that helps some and feel free to write back with any other questions you may have.
