Question
QUESTION: hi, i have a female husky that is approximately 7 and a half months old, her name is lucy, she can't be trusted outdoors alone as she uses her first chance to run away, how can i have her to obey when called, we got a automatic opening garage door and when shes lose in garage she runs when people come and the garage opens even if i call her she ignores and come, what should i do to stop this from occurring and have her obey when called, people told me to hit her if she doesn't obey but that's too aggressive and i just love her too much to hit her. how can i know when can i trust her lose and not running away on her first chance

ANSWER: Did you do proper research on the breed before getting the dog? This breed was developed by a nomadic tribe so this breed doesn't have any sense of property boundaries, it is Greek to them.

Here is what our Breed Club the Siberian Husky Club of America puts it
"Of all the shortcomings to be found in Siberians, the most dangerous to the pet owner is their tremendous desire to RUN. But the very first dash that a puppy makes across the road could be his last run, anywhere. A Siberian, for his own protection, should be kept confined or under control at all times. If you are one of those people who think it is cruel to kennel a dog, or keep him confined in his own backyard . . . don't buy a Siberian."

I highly suggest that you get a fence put up, a kennel or Invisible fencing. If you can't do this a tie out or walking her outside on a leash will do. This breed WON'T and CAN'T be trained to stay in a lawn, hitting the poor girl would be pointlessly cruel. Also on Dog training hitting a dog for not coming in their mind is like these, "close to mom = pain" who would want to come to a mother like that. It is actually training them not to listen to you. "You attract more bees with honey" is how the saying goes. award her for being close to you. Give treats praise and play no matter how busy you are for her listening. Even to the smallest thing. If she doesn't listen I do this. Walk away pour a few pieces of dog food in a bowl and wait. I don't call them I just wait till they come (this is a indoor exercise until you get a fence). She will come then you tell her "Good Come." Let her have the treat and pet her and make a big deal over her being there. She will then associate being close to you to great things.

I do know of people who trained them to stay in the lawn but the moment you aren't watching they will break the rules. Sadly most of these incidents led to the death of their beloved dogs.

I am not trying to be rude this is just a serous issue that touches deeply on a old hurt, my first Siberian I owned met this fate. Please don't let this sweet girl share in that. I didn't do proper research ether, my first girl was a present and a surprise. Wish I could go back and do it all over again.

QUESTION: well sorry for bothering again, i have a room in the yard with high fences just made for her, and i understand that this breed is ment to run, another question that popped to my mind was that from outdoors her foot got some dirt and she scratched her ears as all dogs do, and from repetition her ears are brown, and i am afraid to put dog shampoo on that area as i heard ears are very sensitive, i will attach a picture of her face please focus on her ears and tell me how to fix, I am really sorry for bothering again, and if you could also tell me from her appearance is she a pure breed as she acts as she acts like one in every way but her size seem to be small

Answer
She looks pure bred to me. your average female should weigh between 30 and 45 lbs. they are a medium sized dog. Not a large breed. Malamutes are the larger ones. It is frowned upon to breed they larger. They are long distance runners the larger the dog the less they can endure.
I do have a grooming video on my website, and if you are worried about detergents. Use shampoos that do not have irritating detergents like wild thing products.

In the video I use a blueberry facial like this one.

Be sure to trim the hair on her feet to keep the amount of dirt she collects to a minimum.
I will be making a video later on how to properly care for feet.
