Question
I have a 7 month old husky mix pup.  We are having trouble with her greeting.  When she is excited to see someone (us included) she wags her tail w/ excitment and tries to jump on them.  we are teaching her to sit for greet & ignoring the jump & we are seeing results.  However, when we greet her in a sit she bites.  It seems like she is trying to make sure that we stay with her.  It is not a very painful bite, but it scratches (less painful since she got her big teeth).  I've tried ignoring her, but every time I come back for a greet I get bit.  I've tried having a toy ready for her to chew on, but she will not take the toy.  She only wants to chew on us or the people she is greeting.

Any other thoughts?

Answer
Huskies pup nip when you try to pat them on the head. Patting isn't a natural behavior in the dog world it acctually weirds them out a little and they try to stop your hand by holding it. Doen't mean you need to stop patting him, you just havve to let him know the behavior is okay. It also could be possable he is trying to stop you from leaving anywere, they are very intelligent.
When he trys holding your hand, grab her mouth, shut it and say "no" very firmly. She will wiggle and truggle a little. Don't let go untill she gives up. When she gives up that means she understands what you want if you let go before she gives up this act will be meaningless. Usually a good sign they gave up is they las still and sigh. Right after the sigh let her go.
