Siberian Husky fur

Question
I kept a female from a litter which my male and female had several years ago.  She was the runt of the litter and had developmental issues.  We were very attached to her since we had to give her special care, and decided to keep her.  She has outgrown her issues, but her fur never really grew.  Both parents have very thick fur.  This is an issue because she wants to stay outside with them for extended periods and I'm afraid that this is not good for her.  Is this normal in the breed?  Is there anything I can do to help her grow a better coat?

Answer
Just because the parent's have a good coat doesn't mean that they will throw puppies with the same coat since a short coat is genetically dominant. If they both carry the genes for the short coat they will throw them before the longer coat. It depends on their pedigree. If they have sledding lines in their pedigree this will account for it.

If her coat is meant to be longer it will straiten out in a few years if she remains healthy. It takes a year to a year and a half to grow in a correct coat after something happened to ruin it. Make sure your food contains omega 3 fatty acids. If not add 1 fish oil pill per feeding.
