Size and digging problem

Question
I have a Siberian/ Malamute mix male dog.  He is 11 months old and weighs about 50 pounds, he eats healthy, plays healthy.  He is not overweight.  I got him from a well know husky breeder in Mulino Oregon.  His Dad was the malamute, and his mom was the husky.  My real question is how big can I expect him to be?  Oh yeah, second question he loves to dig how can I break this habit? He even digs after long runs.

Answer
Hi Joel,

Malamute are a little bit bigger than huskies.  He is the ideal size for a husky thought he might grow more since Malamute size is 80 pounds.  I would just prepare for him to grow some more.  I can't tell you the "right" size of a mixed breed.  I am guessing between 60-70 pounds.  I don't think he will reach 80 pounds since he is mixed.

As far as digging, it is hard to stop that.  An easy way is not to leave the dog outside for a long period of time.  I find when I leave my husky out for an hour then she will start digging.  It will get better as he gets older, but for the first 2-3 years they love to dig.  I am enclosing a link about why he might be digging and solutions to help.

I hope this helps.  If you have anymore questions, please ask.
