My huskys size

Question
Hi, I have a husky who is a year and three months, and when I recently took him to the vet I was told he's 55 lbs. Is this the average weight for a male husky? When I compare his hight and body size to other huskies, he seems smaller then most. When do huskies stop growing??

Answer
A purebred Siberian Husky male, according to the AKC standard, should be between 45 and 60 lbs. and stand no more than 23.5 inches at the shoulder (21-23.5 is the range).  Actually, Siberian Huskies are often much lighter and smaller than people realize.  At 15 months of age, the dog is generally full grown, but may still be putting on some muscle, so his weight will fluctuate a little until about the age of 2.  Height is usually finished at about 12 months of age.

Hope that helps some, and if you need anything else, let me know.  And, if you have the chance to go to a dog show, check one out to see the Siberians.  You'll notice them being a lot smaller as a whole than you might think.  Then go over and check out the Alaskan Malamutes - now those are some big dogs.  :)
