Question
I have a thirteen, close to a fourteen year old husky named Jessie and she is having great difficulty laying herself down, getting up, walking up the stairs, basically everything. Got her nails cut today, was hoping that was the solution but sadly was not. My other doggie died in June and Jessie took it very hard but got through. Now, she appears depressed, saddened, moping, uncomfortable due to the arthritis, and I know is unhappy because she can not interact as she once did. I am freaking out here. I love my baby girl so much. What lies ahead? Please help. Just lost my other baby to cancer...am I loosing Jessie as well. Sad Kari

Answer
I really do not want to answer this question. Because due to the stress caused by depression. Her athritis is worse. I had an older dog a few summers ago. He was only 9 at the time he died of liver cancer this last year at the age of 14. But he had an older dog named Onyx that died that year because of complacations with diabities (She was 12). He was so depressed the arthritis in his knees became worse but the fix to my problem was getting a new puppy.. he gained new life from that. Your girl might be to old for this, she hurts probably to much and is past the age where she has any tolorance for puppies.

It is hard, but I would go to your vet and see if they are willing to keep her on some low dose pain killers to keep her comfortable. Possably Fish oil tablets, but she sadly is probably beyond the age where she can heal herself effectivly.

This is somthing you, your vet and your dog has to decide. If you listen to your dog she will tell you when enough is enough or if she thinks she can pull through.

Hope it all works our in your favor.
