Question
My boyfriend and I have a 1 1/2 year old siberian who we thought was fully
housetrained. However, about a month ago we had him neutered and since
then keep catching him relieving himself in the house, and most recently on
the bed in the middle of the night. This has also happened during the day
with the doors open for him to go outside. I'm scared something is wrong,
although he doesn't seem sick or injured. What should we do?

Answer
Bri,

Unfortunately, this is actually a common problem after a change in environment or situation.  Neutering could be considered that.  The basic thing is just to get the dog back to the basics.  Generally, a few days is all it takes and things are back where they should be.  If the dog was crate trained, just go back to crate training and work from there.  It's just important that you watch the dog when he is out so you can "catch him" in the act.  A correction and an escort outside is then needed, and generally, that works.  If you catch him a handful of times, usually the dog will get right back to the routine and everything will be fine.

One word of caution, although a month later I don't think it would be an issue, there is a chance of infection or some medical problems with the surgery that may be causing issue, but this doesn't quite seem to be the case.  If you notice anything (redness, discharge, etc.) that may be an indication to take him to the vet.

Finally, making sure that you are both working at establishing yourself as in control and dominant over the dog will help if the dog is "marking" his territory.
