Huskies and fences

Question
I have a huskie and  lab that will eat out of anything and really just eat anything in general!!! I want to put up a fence in the backyard. I dont know if I should get a full privacy fence or a semi private fence so he can see out of it and maybe help him not want to get out. What do you think? Please help me before I spend mega money on a vinyl fence. Thanks Brooke

Answer
I have heard conflicting reviews on the chain link (or similar) versus wood plank privacy).  On one hand, a fence that a dog can see out of is less of a barrier 'to protect' and allows the dog to see out.  On the other hand, the wood plank privacy fence keeps the dog from seeing what is on the other side.  Personally, we have a 6' tall privacy fence (solid wood planks) and that seems to work well.  While our two dogs seems to want to be able to get next door to play with the three Boxers over there, they seem to be pretty content with life in the backyard.  With the Siberian resourcefulness and propensity for digging, I would strongly suggest a supplemental containment that would include an electrified fence line.  This should alleviate the digging problems, and if you have a wooden privacy fence, there is little to no chance of the dog climbing over.  This problem is not eliminated with the chain link or "semi-private" option.  Mule Hollow Fence Supply has some relatively inexpensive electric "hot-wire" fence solutions that I use and have proven very effective and humane.

Hope that helps, and if not, or if you have further questions, feel free to write back.
