Walking my huskey is a pain

I have a siberian huskey/malamute mix (i got her from the animal shelter, so i'm not 100% sure about her mix).  I absolutly love her to death. She's quiet unlike my other two dogs, she loves to cuddle, and is exceptionally bright. But I have the hardest time walking her, as she constantly pulls at every little bird or animal.  I'm scared of getting a choke chain or something like that considering i've looked at some of them, and most of them look painful.  One even had spikes pointing inwards.  My Huskey doesn't stop pulling even if she's gasping for breath, and i'm afraid a  choke chain would be even worse.  
 What's the best method towards this while she's still learning not to pull? And what's a good way to teach her not to pull? or should i just go with a choke chain?

Sadly for you the desire to pull goes with the breed and all the other things you love about her. These dogs were bred to do just that, pull all day every day. I know it does get tiresome at times my 4 all pull real hard. There are a few things you can do to lessen it a bit. One is use a real long lead, if it is a retractable one make sure it is very strong or she will kill it in a very short time. I never use chokers and I too was horrified to see the ones with spikes on the inside! They should be banned or only used on the humans who think it is a good idea to use them. The other thing you should never use is a halti, these things are just as evil and can injure the deicate tissue in your dogs nose essential to staying cool. So dont be tempted no matter what people say. The best collar and it is hard to get is actually a husky racing collar. I only found one pet shop that stocked these things, It is webbing and has a limited slip action so it never gets tighter than as tight as you set it to. The best place to find one of these things is a sled dog outfitters on line. You may also find lots of other cool gear for your girl there. That is where I tend to find all my stuff.
