Question
I have two Huskies we rescued from the shelter here in Houston. One we got about six months ago and I trained her VERY well and the other (her sister) cought up with us about 2 weeks ago. Isabelle, the one we had first, urinated on my daughters bed a couple of times, so we had it cleaned, alot, and then we got the second one Katie and they both urinated on the bed in the same spot, so we got rid of the mattress and figured if they could not smell the scent there anymore they would not do it... boy was i wrong! They did it again.. they had just been out playing for about 2hrs and came right in and did it while we were bathing our children. I am at my whit ends.. the mattress was brand new! Please help ASAP! We love our dogs , I want them to be perfect and loved because we are thier second chance.  Thank you, Bobbi Bacon, TX

Answer
Hi Bobbi,

The first thing you need to do is close all doors that led to a bedroom.  If the only place the dogs are peeing is on the bed is on your daughter's bed, don't let them go in there at all.  If both the dogs are going to the bathroom outdoors and then coming indoors and still urinating, then they might have bladder infections.  Dogs will also urinated on personal belongs to show dominance.

My first step would be to shut your daughter's bedroom door and any other door's that led to a bedroom or a room you don't want them to use the bathroom in.  By shutting the doors, this tells the dogs they aren't allowed in these rooms.  Only your children, husband, and you.  This will show you dominant the house and not them.  If they stop urinating in the house when these doors are shut, then problem solved.  They usually go to the bathroom in the house when they are left alone or no one is watching.  So if you limit there access to rooms for a while, you should reduce the chances of them urinating in the house.

If this doesn't stop and they still are going to the urinating outdoors and indoors.  I would get them check for a bladder infections.  They may or may not have one, but it is a good thing to know if this is what is causing the problem.  If they do have a bladder infection, you will get treatment for it.  But if they don't, then you might have to potty train them again, but hopefully not.

I hope this answers your question.  If you have anymore questions, please ask.

Thank you and Good Luck,
Laura
