Husky Mix

Question
I am looking at a dog at the Capital Area Humane Society (Lansing, Michigan) (if you take the time to look on-line, his name is Buck he is 4 mos. old).  The owner surrendered him and his puppy siblings to the shelter and stated that the mother was theirs and that she is a Siberian Husky.  Now, looking and touching these pups, you'd NEVER believe there is an ounce of Husky in their blood. -- He appears to have very strong Pointer and/or Aust. Cattle Dog bloodlines.  Is is true that if there's any Husky in this dog's blood, that he will most likely roam???  I just buried a dog that ran incessantly for the entire 16 years I owned him -- even when his hips were given out and he was practically blind.  So, I really don't want to make the mistake of getting a dog that will wander off.  I have a dog who stays right with me right now and don't want to spoil the splendor of her hanging with me -- off-leash -- totally trustworthy and loyal.  At the same time, I love the appearance and the demeanor of this dog at the age he's at right now.  Any input on this matter?

Answer
NEVER NEVER NEVER let a husky off leash. I do not care if it is a Siberian mix. Never let trust them off leash. Trust is the #1 killer of the Siberian Husky. I don't care what breed it looks like. I have heard of Obd Champion Excellent Siberians who don't listen to their owner 1 time and pay the ultimate price for wanting them off leash. Also I will point out no matter where you are in the US even in the state parks their are leash laws so letting any dog walk off leash is breaking the law.
Another thing I will point out Siberians are very smart, (I know this is a mix) but they don't take note of their surroundings at all times. Just like humans they space out and think about other things then what they are doing. Also Siberians aren't loyal to humans. They are loyal to teats, but not even that all the time. They might think chasing a animal and getting lost for days is better then even a steak.
Their homing instincts also suck. I had a Siberian jump the fence, she was lost for 5 days, she was less then a half of mile from the house but still couldn't find her way home. She was a mess, she looked like she got into a fight or two with the local wildlife.
Lastly this breed was bred to run, and run they will. Far and fast in the first direction that hits there fancy. I had a girl bolt out the gait one day and decided running down the middle of US Hwy 12 was the way to go. I almost had chronic heart failure running after her watching trucks and cars weave to miss HER. She didn't move for any vehicle. Running an roaming is in their blood, it can't be trained out of them, I don't care what some people say.
